DTF Neck Tags: Replace Woven Labels

DTF neck tags print your brand identity directly inside the collar of any garment. No woven label minimums, no sewing required, and a clean result that holds through 50 or more wash cycles.

What a DTF Neck Tag Replaces

Most blank garment manufacturers print a plastisol or heat-applied inner neck label at the factory. As a decorator building a brand, you cover that label with your own identity. DTF neck tags are the cleanest, fastest way to do it: press the manufacturer's label off with a high-heat cover pass, then press your brand tag directly onto the inside collar. No sewing, no minimum order, and no label supplier relationship required.

Design Specs

300 DPI PNG with transparent background and RGB color mode: same spec as any DTF file. Typical neck tag dimensions: 2 to 3 inches wide by 0.75 to 1 inch tall. Keep the design simple: brand name, website or social handle, size indicator, and care symbols if you are replacing the manufacturer's care label entirely. Text should be no smaller than 7pt at print size to stay legible after pressing and washing.

Pressing Technique

Cotton: 315°F, 15 seconds. Polyester: 285°F, 12 seconds. Use a strip of parchment paper over the collar seam to protect the outer garment while pressing the inside collar area. The neck tag location is a narrower work area than a chest print, so a strip of kraft paper or a folded Teflon sheet under the collar flap prevents press marks on the garment face.

Cold peel. The inside collar cools quickly compared to the garment face. 10 to 15 seconds after the press lifts is typically sufficient before peeling.

Removing the Manufacturer's Tag

Apply a cover sheet and press the existing label at 350°F for 8 to 10 seconds. This softens the plastisol. Peel while warm. Not all labels release cleanly. Some bonded labels require a full cover-up transfer rather than removal. Pre-treat a test garment from each blank brand before running a full order, because label bond strength varies significantly across manufacturers.

Commercial Use and Wash Durability

A properly pressed DTF neck tag holds through 50 wash cycles at 40°C, the same benchmark as full-front transfers. The inside collar position is relatively low-abrasion compared to the garment face, so durability in practice often exceeds the face print baseline. Inside-out washing helps, but even machine-washed garments consistently hold the neck tag through the full 50-cycle test.
