Who this is for

Order this product if any of these describe your shop.

Promotional product companies that decorate branded drinkware, tech accessories, and hard-good giveaways at retail volume without a heat press on the floor.

Tumbler and drinkware programs (Stanley-style, YETI-style, Owala-style, glass and stainless), where a full-color wrap needs to look printed on, not slapped on.

Hard-good decorators moving away from vinyl cut work: laptop lids, phone cases, sealed wood signs, acrylic display pieces, powder-coated metal.

Sign shops and small-format print shops adding branded rigid promo product lines without buying a UV flatbed printer.

Boutique brands, wedding stationers, and event decorators who need a peel-and-stick decoration that reads permanent, not sticker-like.

Who should not order this

If any of these describe your job, buy something else. We would rather tell you than reprint.

Apparel decorators printing on fabric

UV DTF is a rigid-surface film. The acrylate cracks the first time a t-shirt stretches or gets washed.

Use Custom DTF Transfers instead

Anyone decorating raw silicone, untreated polyethylene, or polypropylene

Low surface energy plastics reject UV DTF adhesion. The film releases within days or comes off in the dishwasher.

Read the substrate compatibility guide

Decorators who need a raised, tactile finish

UV DTF cures thin and flush. If the design brief calls for a patch look, a puff feel, or a dimensional edge, this is the wrong product.

Consider Dimensional UV Graphics

Anyone decorating outdoor-facing surfaces exposed to direct sun year-round

UV DTF holds color roughly 12 to 18 months outdoors before UV shift. For long-term outdoor signage use printed vinyl with a UV laminate.

Where this transfer lives

Substrate pairings, from what nails it to what to skip.

UV DTF bonds to rigid, non-porous surfaces. Success is a function of the substrate, not the transfer. Here is how the common ones perform in production.

Excellent

  • Powder-coated stainless tumblers (Stanley, YETI, Owala, RTIC style)
  • Glass jars, candles, and glassware
  • Ceramic mugs and tiles
  • Anodized aluminum bottles and pens
  • Acrylic and polycarbonate signage
  • Sealed hardwood and MDF plaques
  • Leather and leatherette portfolios, notebook covers, patches

Workable with prep

  • Painted or sealed metal (test the coating first)
  • Hard ABS and PET plastics (clean with IPA before applying)
  • Phone cases with matte or satin finishes
  • Powder-coated Yeti-style coolers (score the surface film first for aggressive-use gear)

Do not attempt

  • Fabric of any kind
  • Silicone phone cases, watch bands, or bakeware
  • Untreated polyethylene or polypropylene (Nalgene, most food containers)
  • Any surface that flexes more than a few percent under use
  • Freshly painted or oiled surfaces without full cure
Material and feel

What the film actually is, and what the finished piece feels like.

What the film actually is

UV DTF is a UV-cured acrylate ink printed onto a clear cold-peel adhesive film with a release liner. The ink cures under UV lamps to a hard, chemically resistant plastic layer. No polyamide powder, no hot melt adhesive, no heat cycle. The bond is pressure-activated at room temperature and reaches full mechanical strength between 24 and 48 hours after application. The finished decoration is roughly the thickness of a business card and reads printed on, not applied.

How it feels on the finished piece

The film is thin, flush to the surface, and glossy by default. On tumblers it wraps clean around gentle curves up to about a 3-inch radius without needing a heat assist. On tight compound curves (small mugs, water bottle necks) plan for slight edge lift and score-and-fit design decisions. Underneath the print, the substrate color still reads through any transparent design element. For opacity on dark drinkware, design with a solid backfill or specify white ink underbase in the file notes.

Common uses

What shops actually make with this.

Custom-branded 40oz tumblers for corporate gifting, real estate closing kits, wedding party sets

Full-wrap 20oz Stanley-style tumblers for boutique brand drops

Logo application on glass jars and candles for artisan brands

Phone case decoration for Etsy and boutique accessory brands

Laptop lid graphics for creator and streamer merchandise

Sealed-wood plaque decoration for awards, retirement gifts, and event trophies

Leather portfolio and notebook branding for law firm and hospitality gifting

Point-of-sale acrylic sign decoration for pop-up retail

Artwork requirements

Feed the printer the right files, the printer feeds you the right sheet.

UV DTF holds fine detail better than any transfer we print. Feed the printer real files and you will see the difference on the finished piece.

File Types

  • Vector: SVG, AI, or PDF preferred, all effects flattened, all fonts outlined
  • Raster: PNG with transparent background at 300 DPI at print size
  • Not accepted for full-fidelity work: JPG, low-res PNG, screenshots, or files pulled off a social feed

Resolution

300 DPI at final print size is the floor. 400 to 600 DPI on small logotype and 1 to 2 point rule lines. The UV cure resolves detail down to roughly 6 point text on a clean file.

Color

sRGB color space, with brand colors called out in the file notes if a Pantone spot is required. UV DTF prints CMYK plus white. Neon oranges, fluorescent greens, and reflex blue Pantones will color-shift, we will match as close as CMYK+W allows and flag anything that will drift.

Sizing and Layout

Design at final apply size, not scaled up. Bleed is not required, the transfer is die-cut at the edge of the print. Keep critical detail 1/8 inch from the design edge to protect against handling and wrap deflection on curved substrates.

Real questions we get

Product-specific answers, not marketing FAQs.

Will UV DTF hold up in the dishwasher?
On stainless and glass drinkware applied to a clean, room-temperature surface with firm pressure, yes, top-rack dishwasher safe. Hand washing extends the life of the bond. High-heat sanitizer cycles at commercial kitchens will shorten the bond over months of use.
Can I apply UV DTF to a silicone phone case or watch band?
No. Silicone is a low-surface-energy substrate and UV DTF releases within days. If you need to decorate silicone, use screen print or pad print, not any DTF product.
How do I keep the edges from lifting on a curved tumbler?
Clean the surface with 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol, let it flash off completely, apply with firm center-to-edge pressure using a squeegee or a small hard roller, and let the piece rest for 24 hours before first wash. If the tumbler has a compound curve, cut the design at a natural seam and apply as two pieces.
Do I need a heat press for UV DTF?
No. Room-temperature hand pressure or a squeegee bonds the film. A brief heat assist at 180 to 200 F speeds full bond on cold-weather or humid-shop applications but is never required.
Can UV DTF be layered over itself or over another transfer?
No. UV DTF is a single-layer cold peel. Layering causes edge lift and inconsistent bond. If the design calls for a layered look, build it into a single flat artwork file with the layered effect rendered in Illustrator or Photoshop before upload.
Is UV DTF outdoor-safe?
It is UV-stable for roughly 12 to 18 months of direct outdoor exposure before color shift becomes visible on high-chroma inks. Indoor and shaded-outdoor applications hold color for years. For permanent outdoor signage, printed vinyl with a UV laminate is the right call.
How small can text and detail go?
Down to roughly 6 point on a clean vector file. Below 6 point the ink can still resolve but the detail starts to compete with substrate texture. On a matte black tumbler with fine ink lines, plan for a slight softening of anything under 8 point.

Reprint Guarantee

If we mis-produce it, we reprint it free.

Every Golden DTF order carries the same written guarantee. Email us within 14 days with your order number and a photo, a production lead reviews it within one business day, and approved reprints ship free with tracking. You never re-upload and never re-pay.

Color off the file you sent

If the printed transfer does not reproduce the file you uploaded, allowing for the difference between a backlit screen and printed ink, we reprint it. We calibrate our press against the same target ICC every day and keep a press log for every run.

Missing ink or dropout

White ink dropouts, thin black lines that did not lay down, or missing detail from a small text run: if it left our shop that way, we reprint it.

Film delamination before press

If the PET film separates before you press the transfer, that is a materials defect, not user error. We track film lot numbers per production run.

Wrong size or wrong file

If our team packed the wrong artwork or produced at the wrong size, we cover the reprint plus the reship.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about custom uv-dtf transfers.

What is UV DTF and how is it different from regular DTF?
UV DTF uses UV-cured acrylate ink on a cold-peel adhesive film designed for rigid, non-porous surfaces. Standard DTF uses pigment ink with polyamide hot melt powder for fabric application via heat press. UV DTF does not require heat. The transfer peels onto the substrate with firm hand pressure or a roller.
What surfaces does UV DTF work on?
Glass, ceramic, stainless steel, anodized aluminum, acrylic, polycarbonate, hard plastics, sealed wood, leather, and leatherette. It does not bond to silicone, untreated polyethylene, polypropylene, or other low-surface-energy plastics without surface preparation. Test unfamiliar substrates before a production run.
Can UV DTF be applied to fabric?
No. UV DTF is designed for rigid, non-porous substrates only. The acrylate film is too brittle to flex with fabric and will crack after wash cycles. For apparel decoration use standard DTF or one of our apparel-grade UV products like raised UV patches or fauxbroidery.
Is UV DTF waterproof and dishwasher-safe?
Yes. UV-cured acrylate is a hard, chemically resistant plastic. UV DTF tumbler and drinkware applications are top-rack dishwasher safe when applied correctly to a clean, room-temperature substrate with firm pressure across the full transfer area. Hand washing extends the life of the bond.
Do I need a heat press for UV DTF?
No for most applications. The transfer peels onto rigid substrates with firm hand pressure or a roller. Some applications benefit from a brief heat assist at low temperature, around 180 to 200 F, to accelerate full bond, but the bond fully cures over 24 to 48 hours at room temperature without heat.
Why is there a $35 minimum order on UV DTF?
UV DTF carries a $35 minimum to cover press setup costs that are higher than standard DTF. The UV cure system requires longer color calibration and surface preparation steps per job. Above the $35 minimum, the wholesale base $0.10 per square inch rate applies without volume tiers.
