About This Product

Leatherette patch blanks finished with raised UV branding for that authentic stitched-and-debossed look without the leather workflow. Pick from eight locked production shapes across 14 total size combinations (circle in 2", 2.5", and 3"; rounded square in 2" and 2.5"; rounded rectangle in 2" x 3", 2.5" x 4", and 3.5" x 2.5"; hexagon 2.5"; half hexagon 2.5" x 2"; diamond hexagon in 2" x 3" and 2.5" x 4"; oval 4" x 3"; elongated rectangle 4" x 2") and six locked production colors (tan, sandstone, grey, black, pink, blue). Edges cut clean, backing compatible with sew-on or heat-press application.

Priced as $4 per blank substrate plus $0.65 per square inch of raised UV print area. That math holds across the line: a 2" circle runs $6.04 each, a 2.5" circle runs $7.19, a 3" circle runs $8.59, a 2" rounded square runs $6.60, a 2.5" rounded square runs $8.06, a 2" x 3" rounded rectangle runs $7.90, a 2.5" x 4" rounded rectangle runs $10.50, a 3.5" x 2.5" rounded rectangle runs $9.69, a 2.5" hexagon runs $7.25, a half hexagon shield runs $6.60, a 2" x 3" diamond hexagon runs $6.93, a 2.5" x 4" diamond hexagon runs $8.88, a 4" x 3" oval runs $10.12, and a 4" x 2" elongated rectangle runs $9.20. Minimum 10 units per shape, size, and color combination.

Best for hat decorators, headwear programs, jacket panels, and bag branding where leather aesthetics are required at production speed.

The Golden Take

Printed leatherette blanks with raised UV branding, die-cut across 14 shape and size combinations in 6 production-locked colors. Built for the retail hat patch look at production speed and price.

Who This Is For

Buyers who reorder this product every quarter.

Real personas from our production floor, not generic marketing segments. If your operation looks like one of these, this SKU is the right fit.

  • Hat decorators pressing Richardson 112 and structured six-panel runs

The default premium patch for foam and structured trucker crowns. Bonds cleanly to standard cap presses without leather sourcing complexity.

  • Country club and lifestyle brand programs

Golf hat merch, hunting apparel drops, and premium outdoor programs where the leather aesthetic sells the retail price.

  • Boutique headwear brands and merch programs

10 to 500 unit hat drops for musicians, breweries, and outdoor lifestyle labels ordering hats plus patches in one workflow.

  • Bag and jacket panel decorators

Rectangular and oval leatherette patches on backpack straps, canvas tote panels, and workwear jacket chests.

  • Print shops adding a premium patch line for cap accounts

Trade decorators who need a locked catalog of shapes and colors that price cleanly across every reorder.

Who Should Avoid This

When this product is the wrong tool.

We would rather talk you into a $0.06 DTF today than sell you a premium finish that will not perform. Here are the situations where this is the wrong call, and what to order instead.

  • Full-panel apparel decoration

Leatherette patches are appliques with defined edges. If the design needs to bleed edge-to-edge on the garment, use luxury branding transfers instead.

  • Custom shapes outside the 14 locked die-cuts

The catalog runs 14 shape+size combinations. Custom die cuts require tooling and a 250 unit minimum outside this scope. For any custom silhouette, raised UV patches are the flexible substrate.

  • Sub-10 unit runs of a single shape and color

The minimum is 10 units per shape, size, and color combination. Below that we cannot open the die cycle for you.

  • Extremely fine text or ultra-detailed halftone artwork

The raised UV finish and leatherette grain both soften sub-8 pt text and fine halftone. Simplify the art before ordering.

Substrate Compatibility

Where this product performs, and where it fails.

Every rating below comes from our press bench, not a manufacturer spec sheet. If a substrate is not listed, we have not tested it. Send us a sample and we will.

  • Wool/acrylic structured cap crown
    Excellent

Richardson 112, YP Classics 6606, Otto trucker foam. Standard cap-press cycle.

  • Cotton twill 6-panel cap
    Excellent

Dad hats, unstructured caps. Slightly lower press temperature (285F) to preserve the crown shape.

  • Canvas tote and backpack panels
    Excellent

10 to 15 oz canvas. Use a heat-press pillow to keep the surrounding fabric flat.

  • Wool blend beanie cuff
    Good

Cuff-fold applications. Do not press across a knitted seam.

  • Workwear jacket chest panel
    Good

Carhartt-style duck canvas jackets. Test wash cycle on unfamiliar coatings first.

  • Waxed canvas
    Workable

Reduce press to 260F. Waxed finishes can migrate under standard heat.

  • Nylon shell outerwear
    Workable

265F max. Some nylons scorch above 275F. Test each new blank.

  • Knit sweater and heavy fleece
    Avoid

Uneven substrate ridges under the patch prevent a full-perimeter bond. Sew-on backing required.

Material and Fit

How the product behaves in production.

Build height, feel, press cycle, peel behavior, wash durability, plus the production notes you would only know after your first run.

Material specification

Build
Polyurethane-coated synthetic leather substrate, 1.2mm thick, precision die-cut. Raised UV branding cured on top at 0.5 to 0.7mm build height.
Feel
Retail-grade textured leather grain. Passes visual and tactile inspection at arm's length as premium leather patch hardware.
Press
280 to 300F, 15 seconds, medium-firm pressure. Use a cap press for crown applications. Standard clamshell for flat garment applications.
Peel
Cold peel. The patch is the final surface, no film to remove.
Durability
30+ machine wash cycles cold with the raised finish intact. Bond survives outdoor wear, sweat, rain, and sun on structured headwear.

Production notes from the shop

  • 1

Six colors: tan, sandstone, grey, black, pink, blue. Colors are production-locked and read consistently across runs. No custom color matching.

  • 2

The 4 x 2.5 rounded rectangle silhouette ships as the 2.5 x 4 variant rotated to match the classic Carhartt hat patch orientation.

  • 3

Backing options: heat-press adhesive (standard) or sew-on cloth (specify in order notes). Adhesive holds without stitching on structured caps and canvas.

  • 4

Each patch is die-cut before the UV print step, so the raised finish never runs off the edge. Edges cut clean without fray.

Common Uses

What shops actually order this for.

Real orders from our production queue, not applications invented for a marketing page.

  • Richardson 112 trucker cap crown patches

  • YP Classics and Otto structured 6-panel hat programs

  • Dad hat and unstructured cap decoration

  • Country club, resort, and golf event hat merch

  • Hunting, fishing, and outdoor apparel brand hats

  • Brewery, distillery, and coffee shop hat merch

  • Canvas backpack and tote panel branding

  • Workwear jacket chest patches and hem tabs

Artwork Recommendations

File prep that actually survives production.

The gap between "the file opened" and "the file produces a clean run" is where 90 percent of premium reprints originate. Prep to these specs and your first run holds.

Required specs

File types
AI, EPS, SVG, PDF (vector preferred). PNG at 300 DPI at final patch size acceptable.
Resolution
300 DPI at final patch size. Files under 200 DPI at final size flagged before production.
Min stroke
1.5 pt minimum stroke on the raised layer. Sub-1.5 pt lines round at the cure edge.
Min text
8 pt minimum body text on the patch face. Reversed text 10 pt minimum.
Max size
Sized to the patch silhouette with a 0.15 inch inset from the die-cut edge.

Also worth knowing

  • Design safe area is the visible patch face inset 0.15 inches from the edge to allow for die tolerance.

  • The leatherette base color shows through any transparent area in the artwork. Choose the patch color as part of the design.

  • Solid fills preferred. Gradients under 15 percent opacity may flatten on the raised cure.

  • Provide artwork in the exact aspect ratio of the patch shape and size ordered.

Deeper Questions

The questions we hear on production calls.

Everything past the standard FAQ, drawn from the first-time buyer conversations that recur every week.

Which cap blanks do these patches press to cleanly?
Richardson 112 and 115, YP Classics 6606 and 6089, Otto 39-165 and 39-169, Sportsman 3100, Yupoong Flexfit 6377 and 6089M. Any structured or unstructured cotton or wool blend crown at standard cap press temperatures. Foam trucker fronts require our cap press cycle at 280F.
How do I decide between heat-press and sew-on backing?
Heat-press backing is the standard and holds the patch bonded flat with no visible attachment. Sew-on backing is standard on jacket panels, tote bags, and any application where the visible stitch line is part of the aesthetic. Sew-on also survives industrial laundry cycles better than adhesive. Specify at order.
Can I mix shapes and colors in one order?
Yes. Every shape, size, and color combination is an independent variant, so a single order can mix freely across all 84 variants. The 10-unit minimum applies per combination. So 10 tan 2.5 circles plus 10 black rounded 2 x 3 rectangles is a valid order at 20 total units.
Are these real leather?
No. Leatherette is polyurethane-coated synthetic leather. Visually and tactilely it reads as premium leather. Production advantages over real leather: consistent color across runs, no sourcing complexity, better tolerance to heat press cycles, and lower per-unit cost. Structurally the finish is more consistent than real leather, which varies by hide.
Will these hold up outdoors?
Yes. Leatherette and the cured raised UV both tolerate sun, rain, sweat, and outdoor wear. Wash testing on structured headwear holds bond integrity through 30+ cycles with the raised finish intact. This is one of the most durable patch options for hunting, fishing, and outdoor lifestyle programs.
Can I get a custom shape outside the 14 locked die-cuts?
Not in this line. Custom die cuts require tooling and a 250 unit minimum. If you need a custom silhouette at lower volume, use raised UV patches, which run on custom die cuts without minimum tooling commitment.
What is the turnaround?
24 to 48 hours from order placement on standard orders. Larger orders (200+ units across mixed variants) may add a day for the die-cut and print cycle. Rush available on request.
Do you offer a hat plus patch bundle?
Yes on production accounts. Hat blanks sourced through our supplier catalog ship pre-pressed with the leatherette patch attached, ready for direct fulfillment. Contact wholesale to open the pathway.

Reprint Guarantee

If we mis-produce it, we reprint it free.

Every Golden DTF order carries the same written guarantee. Email us within 14 days with your order number and a photo, a production lead reviews it within one business day, and approved reprints ship free with tracking. You never re-upload and never re-pay.

Color off the file you sent

If the printed transfer does not reproduce the file you uploaded, allowing for the difference between a backlit screen and printed ink, we reprint it. We calibrate our press against the same target ICC every day and keep a press log for every run.

Missing ink or dropout

White ink dropouts, thin black lines that did not lay down, or missing detail from a small text run: if it left our shop that way, we reprint it.

Film delamination before press

If the PET film separates before you press the transfer, that is a materials defect, not user error. We track film lot numbers per production run.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about dtf transfers.

What shapes are available for leatherette patches?
Eight production-locked shapes across 14 total size combinations: Circle (2", 2.5", 3"), Rounded Square (2", 2.5"), Rounded Rectangle (2" x 3", 2.5" x 4", 3.5" x 2.5"), Hexagon (2.5"), Half Hexagon (2.5" x 2"), Diamond Hexagon (2" x 3", 2.5" x 4"), Oval (4" x 3"), and Elongated Rectangle (4" x 2"). The 4" x 2.5" rounded rectangle silhouette ships as the 2.5" x 4" variant rotated to match the classic Carhartt hat patch orientation. Each shape is precision die-cut from the leatherette substrate before the raised UV print step.
What colors are available for leatherette patches?
Six production-locked colors: tan (classic brown leather), sandstone (light tan / sand), grey (modern grey leather), black (deep matte faux leather), pink (dusty leatherette pink), and blue (denim-leatherette blue). All six read consistently across production runs and pair cleanly with full CMYK UV print on top.
How is leatherette patch pricing structured?
Two-part flat: $4 per blank patch substrate plus $0.65 per square inch of raised UV print on top. That produces predictable line pricing across the size range: $6.04 for a 2" circle, $6.60 for a 2" rounded square or half hexagon, $6.93 for a 2" x 3" diamond hexagon, $7.19 for a 2.5" circle, $7.25 for a 2.5" hexagon, $7.90 for a 2" x 3" rounded rectangle, $8.06 for a 2.5" rounded square, $8.59 for a 3" circle, $8.88 for a 2.5" x 4" diamond hexagon, $9.20 for a 4" x 2" elongated rectangle, $9.69 for a 3.5" x 2.5" rounded rectangle, $10.12 for a 4" x 3" oval, and $10.50 for a 2.5" x 4" rounded rectangle. Add quantity to scale; the per-unit number stays flat.
Can I order multiple shapes and colors in one order?
Yes. Each shape, size, and color combination is an independent variant, so you can mix and match freely across the 84 available variants in a single order. The 10-unit minimum applies per variant, so order at least 10 of each shape, size, and color combination you select.
Why is the substrate priced separately from the print?
Because the leatherette blank itself has a real per-piece material cost that doesn't scale with print area. Pricing it explicitly lets a decorator see the substrate cost separately from the UV print cost and quote downstream accordingly. The $4 number reflects the leatherette stock, die-cut step, and edge finishing.
Can leatherette patches be heat-pressed or do they need to be sewn?
Both. Heat-press backing is the standard and presses at 280 to 300 degrees F for 15 seconds with firm pressure. Sew-on backing ships on request for jacket panels, bags, and any application where mechanical attachment is preferred over adhesive bond. Specify backing in the order notes.
Are leatherette patches real leather?
No. Leatherette is a polyurethane-coated synthetic leather with a textured grain that mimics genuine leather. For apparel and headwear decoration, leatherette is functionally identical to real leather at a lower price, with better color consistency across production runs and no sourcing complexity.
What is the minimum order for leatherette patches?
10 units per shape, size, and color combination. No digitizing fees, no tooling fees, no setup fees, no volume tiers above the 10-unit minimum. Mix and match across the 84 available variants but order at least 10 of each combination you select.
Are leatherette patches suitable for outdoor headwear?
Yes. Leatherette and the cured raised UV branding both tolerate sun, rain, sweat, and outdoor wear without significant degradation. Wash testing on structured headwear holds bond integrity through 30-plus cycles. This is one of the most durable patch options for outdoor brand programs.
