DTF Print Placement: Standard Sizes and Positions
Where your transfer sits and how large it is changes how a garment reads entirely. These are the standard industry placements, the common edge cases, and when it makes sense to break the rules.

Left Chest and Full Front
Left chest: 3 to 4 inches wide, centered horizontally over the left pec, top edge 3 to 4 inches below the collar seam. This is the most common order at GoldenDTF and the placement most customers recognize as professional. It reads clearly on polos, tees, and outerwear without competing with other design elements.
Full front: 10 to 12 inches wide, centered on the chest, top edge 3 to 4 inches below the collar. Anything wider than 12 inches starts to look oversized on a fitted cut and crowds the arm opening. On adult unisex styles, 11 inches is the most versatile full-front width.
Back Placement
Back prints run 12 inches wide as the standard. Center it horizontally, top edge 4 to 5 inches below the collar seam. On youth garments, drop the width to 9 to 10 inches. Back prints often carry more detail than chest prints, and at 12 inches there is enough canvas to handle event rosters, team names, and sponsor lists clearly.
Sleeve Prints
Sleeve transfers: 3 to 4 inches wide, placed 1 inch below the seam cap on the left or right sleeve. A horizontal orientation reads better from a distance on the sleeve. Avoid placing sleeve transfers below the midpoint of the sleeve on adult sizes because the arm bends and the placement gets hidden at the elbow.
Specialty Positions
Pocket area (no pocket present): 3 to 4 inches wide, centered over the true pocket position, roughly 7 to 8 inches from the side seam. Side seam prints run 2 to 3 inches wide, oriented vertically along the seam, and are popular for brand identity marks and small secondary logos. Collar back prints: 2 to 3 inches wide, centered at the collar seam, works best on crew necks.
Sizing for Youth and Toddler Garments
Youth sizes: reduce full front prints to 8 to 9 inches, left chest to 2.5 to 3 inches. Toddler: 5 to 6 inches full front, 2 inches left chest. The proportional rule is that the transfer should never span more than 75% of the garment width. Submitting artwork at print size eliminates guesswork when switching between adult and youth blanks.

- Youth full front: 8 to 9 inches wide
- Toddler full front: 5 to 6 inches wide
