Why Sheet Size Matters for Etsy Sellers

Etsy DTF sellers typically carry 20 to 100 designs ordered in small quantities (1 to 5 of each per week). The challenge is filling sheet space efficiently so you are not paying for blank film.

Gang sheets are priced by total square inches at $0.06 per square inch. A 22x30 sheet is 660 square inches, which is $39.60 at base rate. If 200 of those square inches are blank film, you paid $12 for nothing.

Common Sheet Sizes and What They Are For

Match the sheet size to your typical weekly order volume, not your catalog size.

• 11x15 (165 sq in): good for 2 to 4 medium designs or 6 to 8 small designs. Low minimum cost, easy to fill. Best for newer sellers.
• 22x15 (330 sq in): standard workhorse. Fits 4 to 8 medium designs. Good balance of flexibility and cost efficiency.
• 22x30 (660 sq in): best for established sellers with a predictable weekly mix. Requires more designs to fill without wasted space.
• 22x60 (1,320 sq in): high-volume sellers only. Strong cost per square inch but you must fill it consistently to capture the savings.

How to Calculate Cost Per Design

Measure the bounding box of each design in inches. Multiply width by height to get square inches. Multiply by $0.06. That is your base cost for that design.

A 5x5 design is 25 square inches at $1.50. Ordering 3 of them is $4.50 in transfer cost. At the 12% volume discount ($99 order), that drops to $1.32 per piece. The math improves quickly when you batch.

Filling the Sheet Efficiently

Nest designs as tightly as possible without overlap, leaving at least 0.25 inches between them for cutting. Most design tools let you arrange elements manually. Take the time to close the gaps.

Mix sizes on the same sheet. A 10x10 anchor design surrounded by 4x4 and 2x3 accent designs is more efficient than three 10x10 designs with dead space between them.

When to Upgrade Sheet Size

If you regularly split a natural order batch across two smaller sheets, move to the next size up. The fixed cost of blank film at the edges of a larger sheet is usually less than the combined cost of two smaller sheets.

Two 22x15 sheets at base rate is $39.60 total. One 22x30 sheet is also $39.60. If your designs fill a 22x30 more completely than two 22x15 sheets, the larger format wins on usable cost per square inch.

A Simple Decision Framework

New Etsy seller with fewer than 10 active designs: start with 11x15 or 22x15 and upgrade as your catalog and weekly volume grow.

Established seller with 20 or more active designs: 22x30 is likely your sweet spot.

High-volume seller processing 50 or more units per week: 22x60 or larger, and consider batching orders twice weekly to consistently hit the 27% discount at $500 or higher.
