How to Press Fauxbroidery Transfers: Settings
Fauxbroidery presses the same way standard DTF transfers do, with a few technique details that protect the raised texture. Here is the full press process from platen to finished garment.

Heat Press Settings by Fabric
Cotton and cotton-poly blends: 315°F, 15 seconds, medium-firm pressure. This is the same setting as standard DTF transfers. 100% polyester and moisture-wicking performance fabrics: 285°F, 12 seconds, medium pressure. Lower temperature prevents scorching on synthetic fibers and keeps the raised texture from flattening.
Test a single transfer on scrap fabric before running a full order. Every heat press has temperature variation across the platen, and knowing where your press runs hot or cool before production saves you from a partial adhesion problem on the actual order.
The Peel Process
Let the transfer cool for 10 to 15 seconds after the press opens before peeling. Fauxbroidery transfers are cold peel. Peeling while the film is still hot will pull the raised texture partially away from the fabric with the carrier sheet, leaving a flattened, uneven result.
Peel back slowly and at a low angle, keeping the film close to the garment surface as you pull. A steep peel angle increases the chance of lifting the transfer edges, especially on lower-weight fabrics where the adhesive bond is still forming as the garment cools.
Protecting the Raised Texture After Peel
After peeling, place a silicone sheet or parchment paper over the transfer and press again at the same temperature for 5 seconds. This second press re-bonds any edges that lifted during peel and sets the raised texture firmly into the fabric surface. Do not use a Teflon cover sheet for this step. Teflon can stick to the raised surface under heat and deform the texture. Parchment or silicone works cleanly without sticking.
Common Mistakes
Over-pressing is the most frequent problem. Exceeding 320°F on cotton or going past 17 seconds crushes the raised texture and produces a flat, laminate appearance. The texture is the product. Protect it by staying within the recommended settings.
Under-pressing causes adhesion failure. If a transfer is peeling at the edges within the first wash, the press time or pressure was insufficient. Repress a test piece and confirm the transfer holds a straight pull at the corner before running the full order.
Pressing on Caps and Curved Surfaces
Caps require a cap press attachment with a curved lower platen. A flat platen pressing against a structured cap creates a center-hot, edge-cold gradient that leaves the outer edges of the transfer under-bonded.
